day sixteen; july 9th
Had nothing planned for the day - I was thinking of doing the climb to the top of the Duomo but the lines were extremely long! So instead I decided to get lost! I stayed around the central Florence area. I found many interesting things and places. It’s honestly quite hard to really get lost what with the height of the Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio’s bell tower making sure they are always somehow in view off in the distance. Decided to go back out at night, just after the sunset so around 9.30pm, and get a gelato because it was really, really hot. There’s always a nice breeze coming down the river so I took my time walking over the bridge. Tonight my flavours were apple and mango. The apple will be my first and last! Just too sweet. It was interesting to see all of Florence’s main monuments at night, they are lit up just enough so that you can spot all the features but without them being lost to shadow. Walked back across the Ponte Vecchio where a lot of people were gathered as they listened to a man play a mandolin, and onto home.
