day twenty-seven; july 20th

Had a horrible start to the morning - woke up with a bad cough, very sore hip and on my way to school a “lovely” Asian tourist shoved me out of the way so she could take a photo of some love locks on the bridge which subsequently made trip, though not fall, and break my sandal. And for the next twenty minutes of my trip to school I had to drag my shoe along the ground and deal with a really bad pinch of the nerves in my hip, just as well as I had my Ray Bans on because I had a few rain drops fall on my face. Annnnyway, today’s class went really well and my teacher was really kind about my inevitable lateness. We developed our film from last week’s assignment in the Boboli Gardens. Because most of my photos were of dark coloured objects (i.e. leaves and covered pathways) they naturally turned out very dark on the film and so I thought I had ruined the frames but turns out that’s just they way it shows up. Practiced my dodging and burning skills (click here to see what I mean) on a few prints as the sun was so bright that day any part of a picture that included the sky had no contrast at all.

My bad cough continued throughout most of the morning, just a little worried! Don’t have any other cold like symptoms though which is good. Was able to fix my shoe with some masking tape so that I could at least make it to a shoe store…and I did. Decided to walk to the San Lorenzo area where I finally found a decent salad shop and had a stroll through the markets. Came home early afternoon to sort through photos, watched the sunset and had an early night.
