day twenty-nine; july 22nd

No class this morning as instead it will be held tonight so we can do our fourth and final assignment: night photography starting at 8pm. Coughing is getting worse - I get this tickle at the back of my throat as if I have blocked sinus but oddly enough I don’t even have a block nose, I just sound like I do. I went to a pharmacy and got some cough mixture which seems to work for a short period after taking it. See if this works or otherwise I will have to look into seeing a doctor. Didn’t do much today, I’ve not taken my camera out everyday for the sake of the fact that it is quite heavy and I’ve had plenty of time to take photos so I did that today.

Had dinner at a basic restaurant, basic as in they served traditional Italian meals, called the Yellow Room and then waited in Piazza Della Signoria. It was really quite beautiful watching as all the statues started to cast their shadows, particularly the replica David. Found my professor and we set up our cameras on tripods. He gave us subjects and a few challenges and it was really interesting to just focus on capturing a scene filled with mood and really, really pretty lighting. We went to all the major piazzas, to the middle of the Ponte Vecchio and ended at the Duomo. Unfortunately my evening was marred by my continual coughing, it’s so violent that my body is starting to hurt every time it happens and my throat is becoming raw. At the end of my class I thought the best thing I could do would be to get some gelato to soothe my throat (how ironic!) and my teacher recommended a really good place and obviously he would know because he’s Italian! We all felt like one so we ventured there and sat on the steps of a church. Went home and tried to sleep however I kept waking up to cough and it was becoming really hard to breathe and my head was pounding so I texted my Mum who called me. Cut a long story short, didn’t go back to sleep and watched movies until I eventually dozed off at 5am.
